Question 1: how about Tk::place?

Question 2: check out winGTK and wGLADE

Question 3: check out Mastering Perl/Tk. Here is a sample chapter. The one you are probably referring to, Learning Perl/TK, is old, but still not a bad book to start on. I'd get 'Mastering' instead.

    Just a nitpick, but winGTK and wGLADE are for the gtk toolkit, which is a distinct (but apparently not unpopular) alternative to Tk. :)
