I have no idea where $ref is being declared actually. This is all taking place inside Autoformat.pm which is part of Text::Autoformat. I was just hoping someone would be familiar enough with how Text::Autoformat works to give me some hints on what I might be doing wrong to make Autoformat.pm mad at me. :)
