josip has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Does anybody knows anything about how to build your own SMS server, I've looked all over the net and haven't been able to come up with anything. I need to know how to make my computer send an SMS to my cellphone. If there's somebody out here who knows something, anything at all about this, please let me know where to look. Thank you very much.......

You might take a gander at CPAN. it seems there are a few SMS related modules that will no doubt either possess or link to documentation.

also, isnt Perl2SMS (for Vodafone Australia) just a interface to the webform of Vodafone's?

If you want to send but not receive SMS messages, the Web gateway clients on CPAN (such as Net::SMS::Web or WWW::SMS) or scripts on Perl Monks that others have recommended will do fine.

If you have a spare phone and SIM card and need something more advanced, maybe because you want to receive messages as well as send, or you want delivery reports, or you don't trust the reliability of Web gateways, look into GSM::SMS or Gnokii which has a Perl interface.

If you really want a complete SMS server, there's nothing I'm aware of in Perl that would be adequate, but you might find Kannel useful.

Try looking at Perl2SMS (for Vodafone Australia), it might give you a push in the right direction.
