Courage has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello, all!

It would be good for our department to have possibility to add power of perl to FrameMaker.

I've searched using different engines and found that old listings of CPAN contained Frame::FDK (or FrameMaker::FDK? don't remember), but it seem to be no longer on CPAN now. And it supported FrameMaker 4.0, so it isoutdated anyway.

Also, few years ago FDK was not available for free (it costs ~$700) but now it's downloadable for free, and works okay.

Does anyone knows a situation about perl modules for FDK?

Thank you in advance,
Courage, the Cowardly Dog.
PS. Something fishy is going on there, or my name is Vadim Konovalov. And it's not.

My word, that brings back some memories. Is FDK still up to date with FM?

If the API has not chaged significantly, which I doubt, would a patched port be out of the question?

Steve, please correct me if I did not understood what you mean.

For each FrameMaker version Adobe makes available specific FDK. For example, there is an FDK for FrameMaker 6.0, and FDK for FrameMaker+SGML5.5, and so on.

I think that perl extension will be almost source-compatible between those versions and I am ready to try it, but unfortunately that old module for FDK(framemaker4) is no longer on CPAN, although it was available several years ago.

I can try writing it by myself, but I want to search existing one first in order not to do already accomplished job.
