Courage has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dear all,

Who knows what patchlevel perl-5.8.0-rc2 corresponds to?

The reason I'm asking is simple -- I've downloaded a snapshot that, after reading p5p, seems to me to be the latest -- perl@17340.tbz, and I want to test it in my favourite configurations (BC++, WinCE, MSVC++)

Is it appropriate? thanks!

Courage, the Cowardly Dog.

    RC 2 is change 17431 - the only difference to the snapshot you have is the missing patchlevel output in perl -V.
    You will notice perl -v doesn't say ...with 1 registered patch.

    It generally is a good idea to try out developer snapshots of perl and feed your feedback back (;-)) to perl5-porters@perl.org - preferably using perlbug.

      wow! I'm 90 patches behind a front line!
      Didn't you did a typo: 17431 <=> 17341?

      Okay, I started downloading of RC2 and after ~1hr will know the truth.

      Thank you,
