kschwab has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have a need to integrate perl with a production environment consisting of C++ running the Orbix 2000 CORBA orb.

Does anyone have any real experience with connecting perl with Orbix 2000 ?

I'm aware of COPE and CORBA::Mico, but don't want to take on the task of integrating two ORBS if there isn't some demonstrated success somewhere.

COPE has been successfully integrated with Orbix 2.3 and 3. Check the COPE mailing list archive and you'll quite a number of discussions on this matter.

I'm not sure about Orbix 2000, however it seems to me that commercial products have gradually been moving toward greater adherence to the official CORBA standard and away from proprietary hacks. And to quote the maintainer of COPE, Giles Atkinson, "All the interoperability problems we have seen with COPE are caused by one side or the other (usually commercial servers) either ignoring the protocol spec or interpreting it in an unexpected fashion." I think the outlook is good for integrating with Orbix 2000.
