Poblachtach32 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Can I send a test message to my brother using this module...how does that work from a perl perspective? Who gets charged, and do I need some kind of hardware? I mean, I dont want to get overly excited about this module, if it turns out that I wont be able to get it to work in the first place.

I assume that GSM::SMS front-ends an SMS web interface. (Most vendors provide both email- and web-based front-ends for sending SMS messages.) You don't need special hardware. The charge, if any, is billed to the receiving cell phone.

If you're dealing with AT&T, I posted code for sending SMS messages here. For other services, do a Super Search on the name of the service. There are lots of examples laying about.
