well, you could roll your own block-device wiper (using open, ioctl, sysread, syswrite, syscall (for fsync calls) or just go over to freshmeat and grab wipe - which has a copy of Peter Gutmann's USENIX article Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory.
