Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I often find that I forget to put a \ in front of special characters in my regular expressions that seem correct and then I notice later down the road that my script isn't behaving as I wanted it to. Is there anyway of warning myself when I'm not realizing that I am inadvertently using special and not literal characters in my regular expressions?

The short answer here is going to have to be : "No".

You do have to Say What You Mean.
