When I was in the hire process about 7.5 years ago here, I asked the HR person specifically about my writing and freeware projects. She flagged down the "big boss" who was passing by, who summarily ruled that this was not a problem.

I live (and work) in Switzerland, so I have a bit less reason to be paranoid than people in the U.S. have, from what I hear. But still... From my experience with anything a boss may say, you want to get that in written form. I tend to expect things to be forgotten if they're ruled between door and angle... --cs Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not after you!	[reply]
