ml has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Is it possible to compile Perl 4.036 successfully on Solaris 2.6? I have been having extreme difficulty and I was told by Sun support that its not a supported implementation. However, the developers using the account need Perl 4 for the code to run properly and they claim it will take too much time and effort to upgrade their scripts to perl 5.x compatability. Thanks, Matt

I haven't (and wouldn't) installed Perl4 on any machine since, well, the days of Perl 4. What exactly do these people have in their script which makes them not forward-compatible?

    Cheers,
