in reply to Death of TPJ

This is too bad. I remember when TPJ was the only mag I would read cover to cover. Guess its time to cancel my SysAdmin subscription....

    Eeek. No. OK, it's self-serving, but my column still continues to appear in SysAdmin, and there's a lot of other good articles there too. Please consider that before you cancel.

    Keep in mind that for some months (especially in the last 12 months), the income from my columns is the only income I make.

    update: OK, I come back a half hour later, and this node is at minus 3 XP, and no followup comment. If you're bitter about TPJ's loss, please don't use me as a proxy. If you want the kind of content that I do for magazines, someone has to subscribe. I'd love to do all my work for free, but I have to get paid at some point, or else I don't eat and I don't have a place to live. And thank SysAdmin (and Linux Magazine, and WebTechniques before that) for letting me put my columns for free on the net. Don't be angry with them. And don't be angry with me, at least not telling me why.
      I guess my point was that the only reason I subscribed to SysAdmin in the first place was to get the bundled copy of TPJ. I felt slighted when they converted what was supposed to be two magazines into what amounted to an apendix.... Now that TPJ is no longer there, I feel like I've purchaced a jar of snake oil.

      p.s. I didn't downvote your node.... Your articles, in whatever mag they apear in, are always worth reading "cover to cover" ;-)

        Yeah, very similar to all those loyal subscribers to WebTechniques that ended up with a copy of NewArchitect for the remainder of their subscription. From a useful magazine for developers to a useless ad-filled press-release-reprinter aimed at pointy hair bosses in one month. {sigh}

    I just cancelled my subscription. One of the big reasons I took it was for the TPJ. What was funny is the fact they didn't like it cancelled? What do they expect? Oh Well. I guess I will take a look at the the perl review now
