in reply to Helping New Members

hey Noobie,

It's great you want to help but this is not the way to do it. You might get a couple people but it will roll off

You have a unique perspective in that you are still new. If you are serious about wanting to help. I would give some thought about anything that you think will help others. For example, something you didn't know existed that would have made your time easier if you knew.

As you mention the tutorials, did you notice the beginners one? Welcome to the Monastery! Make yourself at home. If you feel stuff should be added, post a comment on it's thread. If the writer thinks its good, he will add it.

Keep up the good work.

Or use your enthusiasm on the fairly thankless task of replying to people whose posts indicate they could use this kind of information. Badly formatted posts, or posts in the wrong section might benefit from the perlmonks introductory tutorial Marza mentioned (or turnstep's homenode), especially if this were suplimented with a few quick tips relating to their specific circumstances. A recent post seemed to suggest that these kind of answers, which include parts of the manual instead of just pointing to it, are of short supply.
