When I learned HTML, it didn't have such silliness as </p>... :) Actually, I'm not kidding, there really WASN'T a /p tag.

Seriously, thanks for pointing that out; I've been using <p> as a separator instead of a container for way too long...

Actually, I'm not kidding, there really WASN'T a /p tag. Heh. Yeah, that was back before there was a BR tag too. In fact, the P tag basically functioned as a BR. But by the time the first HTML RFC was published, BR was ubiquitous and paragraph breaks became paragraphs and were no longer empty elements. Sure, the /P end tag has remained optional but that's just no excuse. ;-) Now, if I could just teach myself to write those BRs as `<br/>`. . . -sauoq "My two cents aren't worth a dime.";	[reply] [d/l]

I remember too when <P> was a separator. I still do that on PM because it's faster, but use the new way on web pages (and use a validator).	[reply]

I hate the P. I love the BR. In fact, I'm using it right now! I don't know why, but I have never liked the P. I like it as a verb... very satisfying. Funny, I'm the opposite. `<P>` is a true markup tag in spirit while `<br>` is layout oriented, and since I have a metadata mania and try to keep data in machine consumption suitable form whenever possible I don't tend to use the latter much. Makeshifts last the longest.	[reply]
