The problem and the solution seem to be completely orthogonal. You can visit plenty of nodes without voting on them. (Indeed, I suspect if this goes through, we will have more push for the 'null vote' idea.)

I've thought about it myself but I never suggested it because I guessed it might be a little resource intensive. Most people probably hit Newest Nodes regularly and, if you have to determine which nodes a user has seen and then get the current reputation on those nodes for display, that's a lot of processing.

I could easily be wrong though. I know absolutely nothing about Everything.

Uh, a node is not a thread. Every single post (and indeed everything (hence the name I guess)) is a node in Everything. Your post on this thread is a node. This post is a node. (With nodetype "note", btw.)

Well technically you are correct but the fact you and I are posting nodes to each other on this topic make it a thread? ;)

As I mentioned unless he views the New Notes section periodically, he would miss notes. If he had New Nodes flagged, he could miss things if there were nodes responding to the New Node after he voted

I think you're probably 'the only freak that would like that feature'. Here's a related feature that I think would be great (but then again I probably the only freak...):

Like you, I mainly use the Newest Nodes page as my entry point. But I find myself clicking through to a node (Mozilla middle click to open in a new window) and then immediately clicking on the link to view the whole thread - so I can see the comment in context.

I think it would be great if each of the 'New Notes' included a link to the full thread. It would be even cooler if the link passed both the thread ID and the node ID so that the node could be highlighted in the thread.
