RuneK has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi all, I have an IRC server where I would like to log selective messeges from the chats going on. The logger is supposed to read the strings chattet in the channel and if certain words appear in the string and then log it into a file. The reason I'm asking this question here is because I wondered if there is an existing program or perl module with guidelines on how to perform this functionality? Thanks a lot, RuneK

Have a look at Net::IRC. Log::Log4perl is a generic logging module that might help, but won't do the job you need in itself.

    Makeshifts last the longest.
