Why go with a private tutor? Have you looked in to taking some Perl classes at a community college? It cost me a whopping $26.00 for one semester of Perl.

There were two classes: beginning and advanced Perl. We had a class size of 30 or so, which diwndled to about 28 at the end of the first class, and about 15-20 in the second class. I'd say that's a better bet than the tutor, plus reading on here of course. :)

There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling now.

Probably a LOT more that buying Learning Perl and reading it diligently.

And of course, joining in @ PM

But today you took me walking, Through a land that we have lost,
While our children sit at websites, With no access to the cost

Hey dude, a better idea would be asking the PM people or even better getting Learning Perl 3rd edition. I have it and it works for me. Just like hoked on fonix werked 4 me to. But for real a tutor would be like $50 an hour if you could even find one, a book $20 and it's your tutor for as long as you need it. I am learning little by little and understanding this book and I am a 13 year old Alaskan!

I don't know the rates. I'd expect them to compare to music lesson rates, thinking that a qualified college student could handle either job.

Others are recommending book learning and I won't fault them. I just happen to be in a less arrogant mood. I realize the possibility that you might know how you want to learn.
