Hi all.
A friend of mine recently asked me if I had ever worked with VoiceXML. Being an inquisitive person, after I said I hadn't, I asked what kind of project he was considering applying it to.
He works for a large insurance company where they receive inquiries regarding damage claims, etc. Various companies call and ask:
- How much will you pay on this claim?
- What is the authorization number?
- Etc...
The current thought around the office is this:
- Allow outside inquiries to come in through the caller's touch tone keypad ( DTMF entries ).
- A connection is made to an Oracle database ( on-site ) in order to obtain the pertinent info.
- The requested info is spoken to the caller via VoiceXML.
He is resonably skilled in using C++ and java but doesn't know perl at all. So, if possible, could any of you provide me with a suggestion or two regarding how *you* would approach this project? My University is offering an XML course next semester ( January ) so I will be unable to help with regard to the VoiceXML details. I did however mention using perl and he seemed interested in the idea.
Thanks in advance for the help,
-Katie.
