It sorts the list into a sorted list using the ASCIIbetical sorting method. This is a weird method where Caps exist before lower case letters and punctuation appears all over the place but, this is the default sorter of perl. To change this to your own custom method of sorting or to another known method such as alphanumerical, look at Chapter 15, stings and sorting, in Learning Perl (3rd) by O'REILLY.
