Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I need to dynamically update a table through javascript. I do not want the html reloaded but updated through the javascript. Is there a Perl module that would generate appropriate javascript that would dynamically update the table. I assume I can get the javascript to poll the cgi on a regular basis (no idea how to do this but working on it). The examples I have seen have the page been redirected which I assume would redraw the page.

Check out OpenThought. It's a Web Application Environment which allows the browser and server to interact in the background, you don't need to reload the page.

One of OpenThought's features is that it can dynamically change existing HTML code. That, in combination with JavaScript's setTimeout() method should do what you're looking for. Just use setTimeout to call OpenThought's callUrl() JavaScript method, which will talk to the server in the background, and would allow you to perform the updates you are looking for.

    Good luck,

See Dynamic web pages (interactive table) for more info. This is obviously some school project that has been assigned as this question has been asked almost verbatim within the last week :(
