cored has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi monks, i need something to wake up me in the morning "yes i know im lazy" i think in perl of course, i think i this code but its not making the things i want...
perl -e 'sleep 120; print "\a";'

    Sometimes (gasp!) perl isn't the best tool for the job. A few times I've absolutely had to get up (especially at insane hours of the morning or night) I use at and mpg123, pick a good wakeful MP3, and crank the volume good and loud.
