cleverett has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

When running a make install on perl 5.6.0, I get an error:

Can't locate Carp/Heavy.pm in @INC (@INC contains: lib) at lib/Carp.pm line 109

but I find Heavy.pm just where it should be in /root/perl-5.6.0/lib/. My theory is that its looking for Heavy.pm in the perl-5.005.03 hierarchy, but I don't want to uninstall that version of perl, since debian doesn't have a potato package for it yet, and that means I'll have to uninstall all my other apps if I continue using dselect.

I'd like to have 5.6 installed over 5.0005.03, so that debian can live with it, but I'd like to avoid doing any serious gymnastics to that end if possible?

Anyone have a clue for me? :)

Everett

No clues for you, but I experienced a similar problem yesterday while compiling the latest Gimp on my brand spanking new Mandrake 7.1 install w/ Perl 5.6.0. The configuration script bombed out claiming it couldn't find PDL::Core in /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0/i386-linux yet it was most definately there. Weird. I had to disable Perl in the Gimp install in order to continue. :(
