As for the meaning of kilo and mega, actually he's right, and our usage within the computer industry is a non-standard appropreation of those prefixes, and it bugs scientists in other disciplines. Unless manufacturers start using it on product packaging, nobody knows what I mean by "Ki" or "Mi", so I like to write a subscript 2 instead, K2, which means "base 2" and is more obvious.
