ljbailey has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I tried to install DBD-Oracle-1.12 on my 64-bit Solaris machine with Oracle 9.2.0 and I received an error on $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/defopt.o. Is there a 64-bit DBD-Oracle...? Larry

It would be more helpful if we could see the exact error message.

As for "64-bit DBD-Oracle": the DBD driver has nothing to do with the word size. That's all handled by Perl automagically. What you need is a version of perl compiled with 64-bit support.

Where can I find a copy of Perl DBD compiled with 64-bit support?

Have you verified that both Perl and your Oracle client are working properly on this machine?

Oracle 9.2.0 have been working fine for months. It is a production machine. I have also been using perl on this machine for the last two or three months. I've installed the DBI & DBD successfully on 32-bit machine successfully. The DBD will not compile on my Solaris 5.8 64-bit machine. Larry

    Hi ,

The perl has to be a 64 bit source that is compiled in Solaris. Also , it seems the 32-bit source is not the one to handle even open for files having size greater than two gigabytes and hence compile the 64 - bit source in Solaris
