Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I've taken a look through CPAN and Google and not found what I'm looking for.

I'm checking to make sure nobody's written Perl modules to manipulate iCal/vCal format files before I go and create one myself.

Suggestions and pointers very appreciated.

Oh I see. I had used the wrong query. "vCal" routes directly into Net::IPv6Addr which is an obviously broken response. I didn't yet know that "iCal" is a newer version of "vCal". Anyhow, it just looks like none of the listed modules do what I want so either I implement them myself or find another implementation in a different language.

I had hoped to pipe internet e-mail messages into a script, use MIME::Tools to iterate over each of the MIME entities and extract out the vCal/iCal parts for processing by some yet unspecified "other" program.

A few days ago, there was a discussion in the module-authors mailing list regarding a soon-to-be-uploaded alternative to Net::iCal which would handle contacts and events. A CPAN search of 'iFile' or 'vFile' would give you a hit once the module is uploaded.

I am sorry to be so vague, but at the time I was not paying too much attention to said discussion. Perhaps you could also look at the archives for more information.

    Best regards
