I have been aware of database/machine trouble lately, as such trouble has been reported by authorotive sources. My trouble is, however, elsewhere, and I ask you excuse my inability to exhaust the discussions regarding the problem, due to the problem.

Two months ago I had to start writing a paper with a multidigit minimum page length. I have trouble concentrating for prolonged periods of time and thus resorted to quitting all the communities/projects i was involved in at the time, until I was done.

Upon my return to perlmonks I've noticed some changes in the responsiveness of the site. This was a month ago. I was not able to even contact the host for most of the time, and I'm still only able to get usable times once in three days or so.

Due to my inability to maintain a reasonable session here, I have not been able to research the problem, and ask for answers the lazy way.

Is the problem mine? I had none before I parted.
I doubt the problem has to do with the database server upgrade, because either it works pretty well for periods of several minutes, or completely dies.

Is anybody else experiencing this? Is it a known problem?

I would be grateful for any information.

By the way, pair network's own site is responsive, even when perlmonks isn't. Additionally, when my problems cease i see masses of people still in the online users list. I'm pretty certain the problem is local.

Thanks In advance

See Re: PM News: Vote fary missing, and other stories... (corrections) for a summary of the current state of the site. When DB load doesn't exceed capacity, then page loads are around the typical (for us) 5..10 seconds. When DB load exceeds capacity, page loads can take minues which might cause your browser to time out and also increases the frequency of server errors. During busy times of the day, the DB load can fluctate from under capacity to way over capacity rather frequently.

I'd like to know why the hell this was downvoted.

Seriously folks, an honest question, regarding perlmonks (correct section), with no negative attitude, offensive content, or any other reasons i can think of, is all asked.

I'm having real trouble connecting, to the point where 3 out of 4 requests fail. I think this question is at least partially legitimate.

At least have the nerve to tell me what I did wrong!
