Why on earth would you want to do that? Each pass over the tape wears it out. Tapes are rated at ~500-1000 passes with 2 passes if you are doing verification and one for plain write. If you want to format because of data reliability issues you need new tapes/clean heads.

You can set arcserve to automatically *overwrite* the contents of a tape (without format) from the GUI job schedule widget.
