I think it's incredibly arrogant of you to assume that I wrote the stats page so I could see my Apache logfiles grow. The whole stats project was a result of two goals:
One was a learning project for PHP4. I believe that every language has a place. Perl is a greate language, but PHP4 was an unexplored medium for me, and I found that this project lended itself well to such an exercise. It interfaces into a database, required argument processing, etc.
The second was to satisfy a craving in PM statistics. Sure, I could generate the numbers by hand, and then watch them be out of date within seconds. Not much point in statistics that aren't current.
I might not even have advertised the page on PM, had it not been for a couple of other users who expressed an interest in PM statistics.
I've generally avoided this Deep Linkage thread. Fact is, I really don't care. Until the court tells me not to do it, or
vroom tells me not to do it, it's not changing.
