Oh, I would love it if it were impossible for the users to interact with any part of the ensemble but the viewscreen part of the monitor (keep even that power button away from them), the keyboard (preferably the kind I don't have to fish two dozen staples out of every now and again) and the mouse. But they're all using Windows of course, so every now and again it'll completely lock up, or turn itself off, or whatever, and I don't feel like getting off my lazy ass to the cube farm every time that happens.

Of course, I pretty much do anyway. Damn, I hate them sometimes.

Because Windows is a security risk. And a pain to maintain. It is much more difficult to automate useful tasks, multiple-concurrent-user support is shoddy at best (which means if a user wants me to configure something, half the time I have to log them out to do it), and the "superuser" doesn't have superuser privileges all the time. But this isn't really a Winbashing thread. So, although I could rant for hours, I'm going to go back to writing stupid little VB apps to make my users' lives easier rather than just installing Mandrake on all their machines. LAI :eof	[reply]
