I have some realy froody scripts that I've developed to do some interesting things, but I'm not sure how I would add them to any snipets or, which is more likly. check whether someone who has already come up with the same solutions for the problems. Guidence would be welcome. -- DoctorMO --

If you mean adding code to the Snippets Section, just go there and at the bottom of the page there will be a form to submit your snippet. As for searching so that your snippet isn't a duplicate, Super Search is your friend and Grinder's Snippet Index may also be of help.

      Thanks :).

      A couple follow-up questions:

      • Are there any alternative interfaces to the snippets section?
      • How do you determine what goes in Snippets and what goes in Code? What's the general cutoff?

      Thanks again.

If you have something that you think has general and lasting usefulness -- to the extent that you would maintain it over time -- put it in Code Catacombs, no matter what length it is.

If it's a nifty trick that saves you some lines of code in one or more situtations, it's probably a good snippet.

In either case, you'll probably get some critiques -- which, no matter how they are phrased, will really be constructive for you (so don't be offended -- the same has happened to everyone who has contributed here). But note that you can update your root node in the catacombs, whereas it may be harder to do that in other sections of the monastery.

        Glad to help.
        • Nope, not that I know of.
        • If it's a small section (to refrain from using the word snippet in it's definition) of code that is more general and can be pretty much plugged into a larger program, then I'd put it in Snippets. For larger stuff that's more standalone, I'd use Code. There really isn't much more a cutoff than that. If you want a better idea, take a look at some of the nodes in snippets and code.

Added graff has some good suggestions (probably better than mine as he's been here longer) for how to categorize your code.

Since you are an initiate, and this is your first post, I will give you the same guidance I gave mumphis in 246725

Take some time to consider your message. Is it clear and does it provide us enough detail that we can actually understand your intent and provide you guidance?

Go ahead and check out How do I post a question effectively? and then come back and give this another shot.

Since you've only been here for 15 months, and this is your 28th post, I will give you the same guidance I gave merlyn in 246800

Take some time to consider his message. Is it clear and does it provide you with enough detail that you can actually understand his intent and provide him with guidance?

If not, Go ahead and check out The English Language and then come back and give this another shot.

The poster's questions are obvious. If you don't want to help him, don't. Just don't pretend that you're not helping him because of minor errors.

Two points for your next post, if you're interested in communicating:
    • Don't use the word "froody".
    • Get a spell checker.
This response is only because you're asking how to contribute. Those two things would help.

      • Don't be a pretentious moron :).
      • Don't sweat the small stuff.

I can understand perfectly what he's asking. Is worrying about other's typos, grammar, and localisms really worth your time? If you can understand a post, you can reply constructively instead. And to answer your question, yes.

I'll add a few more smiley faces so you don't confuse the direct nature of this post with a flame :) :)

Hi, welcome to The Monastery :).

First off, thanks for wanting to contribute code. As for where to post it, small stuff can go in the Snippets Section, larger code can go in the appropriately named Code Section. You can use Super Search to check for previously posted code, but don't worry if someone else has already posted it, the more code the better :).

    Enjoy your stay :).

    "froody" == "Frodo Baggins"?
"Master is tricksy, master is falses." AAAAH NOOOO! Now I got Gollem in my head. O_O

'frood' is a word out of The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy -> frood..
(And I don't see any reason why people shouldn't use it ,)

I'm surprised no one has suggested making them modules and putting them on cpan.
