Tides of change

One wizard displeased
Seeking to avoid further
Trouble, awaiting

Random sheep, playing
Children laughing, asking of
Parents, innocent

Fearful of power
Or fearful of changes swift
Perhaps not, but still

Shunned again, once more
Simple peasants unwitting
Think they know right, but

The wizard sees, and
Is bitter, fumes so with rage
Calls down heaven, no

The people cry, why
We seek your wisdom and care
Folly seen, too late

A matter of view
No wizard, no peasants, only
Men, monks, and holy Dog*

Sees regretful men
Monks determined to change things
A sorrowful Dog

Seeks peace and serene
Wizards and monks alike, here
Sharing and learning

Helping and teaching
The untaught, the lost sheep from
Before the trouble

Parents, not peasants
Are sheperds, tending the flock
For no man is high

Even the wizard
Also a shepard, also good
Just misunderstood

But reminded of
The great purpose, the reason
That we are here, not

For personal gain
Or glory, fame, none of these
But for each other

A wonderful poem, and a nice allegory (though rather transparent).

(Not technicly perl poetry, but ++ for you anyway).
