I don't mind someone printing something substantive-- if they'll actually use the printed form.

If they print their emails, that's wasteful... unless they're printing sixty emails of annual employee review drafts for proper note-taking during an offsite meeting.

If they print a user manual, that's wasteful... unless they have a habit of bringing the manual to the restroom or cafe for a little more focus-time.

Making and using paper isn't unethical. Leaving it in stacks just to collect sterile dust for a few months or years before being dumped into a greasy all-garbage receptacle... that's what deserves some negative karmic balance.
