nmerriweather has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Based on previous discussions here, and google, I dont think I'm gonna be lucky with this.. but I might as well ask. Has anyone been able to create PowerPoint documents using .gif files or .pdf files as slides? PerlPoint and other unix/opensource things aren't an option - if the end-user were me, they would be. I'm looking to automate PowerPoint creation for one of my ArtDirectors when he gets shafted with making layouts for clients who want to discuss them over a PowerPoint presenation. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't used PP for 5 or more years, but does it allow you to use hypertext links to external files?

I seem to remember someone doing something similar by creating the first slide as an index with each item a clickable link that used file://localhost/c:/slide1.gif etc. and stepped through it that way, but maybe my l'il grey cells are playing tricks on me again.

You could also try to automate PowerPoint using OLE or COM. Never did that myself, though, so I can't give you any pointers. Super Searching should find a few nodes, though.
