After the This isn't really my CUFP mention of MisterHouse, I did a search to discover that my favorite CUFP hasn't already been mentioned. I'm not affiliated, I just love mine.

The SLIMP3 player (see http://www.slimdevices.com/) is "the smartest way to stream MP3s and internet radio stations to your stereo over your network without loss of sound quality."

You can hook up one or more of these on your home LAN, and stream MP3 music from a (Win32/Linux/BSD/Solaris/Mac) server. The devices are "dumb," 99% of the functionality is GPL-licensed Perl code on the server.

I've had mine for a year now, and am thinking about getting a second one for downstairs (you don't need a second server). Set an alarm to wake yourself to a given .m3u playlist. Some all-Perl games have even been implemented to play on its flourescent screen. Control it from the infrared remote, or from any web browser that can reach your server. Don't worry about dinky 32MB or 32GB capacity, use whatever filesystem storage you want.
