BTW, you can see for yourself how split works by reading the excellent documentation included with Perl called 'perldocs'. Do this at a command prompt:

   perldoc -f split
[download]

and more generally, read about perldocs by doing

   perldoc perldoc

        and

   perldoc perl
[download]
