Taking a page out of tilly's big ol' book, you can perform some magic with IO::Scalar
use IO::Scalar; tie *STDOUT, 'IO::Scalar', \my $output; print "foo", "bar", "baz"; warn "got - [$output]\n"; __output__ got - [foobarbaz]
