My breaks need to be away from all electronic media. I used to go smoke, but now that I've quit, I go play foozball. Mmm .... foozball. I think I'll go play now. :-)

I usually visit Kuro5hin (to check up on stories and the various diaries I like to read), The Cellar (especially the image of the day), Metafilter, UserFriendly and my own board that my friends and I hang out on. I'll also come here and talk on the the chatterbox.
I forgot to add before posting that I also like to occasionally take breaks from the computer entirely. Playing basketball, throwing a frisbee around, reading, and generally doing other stuff that isn't computer related. | [reply] |

I have to take 'life breaks' occasionally. Apparently its the law.

Slashdot is usually the first one to check without any
thinking. It updates pretty often too.
Freshmeat for quick look at software announcements.
...and if I *really* feel like looking at world's news (which happens extremely rarely),
then, Google News.

I have one Mozilla window open, on my lowest virtual desktop, with the following 4 tabs opened at all times...
...at least a few times a day, when I want to take a quick break, I select "Reload All Tabs" and skim through them.

I like Google News because it ranks stories using (I imagine) the same sort of page ranking scheme that their search engine uses. So you don't the USA-centric view of CNN. I also occasionialy visit Drudge Report but it's a bit sensationalist. The Inquirer is also quite a good read.
Finally, of course, I have to admit I like oddball humour so I visit Dave's Top Ten List once in a while. Dilbert's List Of The Day was hilarious while it was running, but they started to repeat themselves so stopped publishing. Too bad.

Yep, Google News++. It's nice to read the news from multiple sources from around the world and not just CNN.

Oh im definately in the news junkie camp. I like to read BBC, CNN Europe, and CNN America. I find it quite amazing the stories that make front page headlines on BBC, make a minor headline (if anything) in CNN-E and dont get reported at all in the CNN-US site. I actually went to find some examples to post, but all the ones I found were sufficiently politically sensitive that ill refrain. Suffice it to say its educational to see how the different areas view themselves and the world around them.
Oh, and if I want a good laugh I usually go and read the politics section on CBC, if you are in need of a laugh Canadian politics usually does the trick pretty damn well.
