I would heartily recommend (to the monks who haven't yet checked it out) thinking about subscribing to some of the perl6 mailing lists. Even if one can't contribute much, just absorbing the day to day correspondence of some of perl's best is enlightening.
A warning though, the lists are VERY high traffic right now, and much of the content is very heady stuff. I myself don't follow much of the Perl6 Internal's mailing list, as I don't yet have the background to know what's really going on there. On the other hand, over in Perl6 Language Changes I have found gem after gem, often directly from Larry, Tom Christiansen. I've learned a lot just reading their posts on debates on multiline comments, whether perl is strong typed or not etc.
A full list of available mailing lists and archives is here.
For those who don't want to be drowned in mail, reading the RFC's is also a great learning tool.
