I want to share with you a story of how my PERL (wups, should be "Perl") or even programming in general mentality comes into play in my daily life.

The other day, I was helping someone build some shelves. We decided to use the leftover screws from a different project. I was told to take the box of screws and to pick out the long black screws. Now, let's take a look at my thought process throughout this job:

use strict; # well, not really my $screw; my @box; my @box_of_good_screws; foreach $screw (@box) { if ($screw >= "1 in." && $screw =~ /black/) { push @box_of_good_screws, $screw; } }

This really happened. I actually started thinking this way at that exact moment. Pretty cool, huh?

    From 'man perlfaq1':
    What's the difference between ""perl"" and ""Perl""? One bit. Oh, you weren't talking ASCII? :-) Larry now uses "Perl" to +signify the language proper and "perl" the implementation of it, i.e. the curr +ent interpreter. Hence Tom's quip that "Nothing but perl can parse Perl." + You may or may not choose to follow this usage. [...] But never write "PERL", because perl isn't really an acronym, aprocryp +hal folklore and post-facto expansions notwithstanding.

    I don't mean to be a smart-ass, but I noticed you used "PERL" in your other
    two other posts today as well.

      Wups! I guess your right. I never read that before. Although, doesn't "perl" (see I'm learning already) stand for "Practical Extraction and Report Language". I guess I got confused. Thanx for the correction.

        For those that would like to think perl is somewhat sane, yes, to the rest of us its:

        Pathological Eclectic Rubbish Locator

        Which of course makes more sense :)

        Cheers,
        Gryn

    During my Computer Architectures course, I surprised myself thinking in RISC assembly ;)

    Just kidding, of course
