Perhaps I'm blind if such an option already exists, but I would like a link that would let me download the contents of the code tags in a plain text format (following the code perhaps?). I keep wrapping on so my page doesn't become enormously wide when going through the site. I'm too lazy to set my editor so it will cut the +'s off and unwrap wrapped lines. As such I would like such a feature that allows me to continue my studies in this habit :). Of course, with such a setting, a warning of some sort may be necessary (i.e. "WARNING: In this world there are some untrustworthy scoundrels running about posting code on websites. Also, this code may have been posted because there is something wrong with it. Maybe it's causing all of the OP's pets to do the polka and, well, nobody wants that! In short, use with caution!"). Of course, I don't think it should be used for code tags that are within a sentence (i.e. ...I always say use strict;...).

The d/l code link is what you want ;)

Ah. I said that I may be blind and you have proven that I am.

      Thanks :-P

Don't feel too badly - I only discovered that through somebody else's discussion a few month's back. I don't think it's all that obvious. I've ++'d the question because I reckon there'll be a few people learnt something from it - though they'll be heaving a sigh of relief that they didn't ask the question!! :)

Sorry, but i got a good laugh out of this ... there is a d/l code link right there, part of your post. ;) Of course, that's not the reason i am replying (and i have done similarly sillier things myself). I am posting because a while back Dog and Pony wrote a really cool script: Run and/or download code directly from perlmonk nodes.. Use at your own caution, but it is handy for validating the code you post - it just doesn't handle DATA sections properly.

    jeffa

    L-LL-L--L-LL-L--L-LL-L--
    -R--R-RR-R--R-RR-R--R-RR
    B--B--B--B--B--B--B--B--
    H---H---H---H---H---H---
    (the triplet paradiddle with high-hat)

(Actualy, it's the d/l code feature, and not dog and pony's code, that corrupts __DATA__. It postpends several newlines to the end, which can make some scripts misbehave.)

It took me some months to discover the "d/l" link...
From time to time you even see people giving tips on how to remove the "+" sign from code!
Maybe it's time to rewrite "d/l" as Download Code !

I agree, I think the link title needs to be more obvious. I just submitted a patch to make the change, but the gods have to approve and apply it. They may or may not, at their discretion. Stay tuned.

Don't feel silly, I had no idea this feature was there. In fact, I just went looking for it and I couldn't find it. !!!

The reason for this is pretty clear to me. This link should be placed at the top of the node along with the other links ( print w/ replies, xml )

As for the terminology, I don't grok "d/l code", but perhaps others do. I would recommend "download code" or "unwrapped code", or even "code".
