My native language is English, but that's not why I am replying. My recollection of the Tower of Babel referred to a period of time in Genesis where all the people in the land spoke the same language and were constructing a tower that almost reached Heaven. God spread the people out to all the lands given them different languages so that never again would humans reach that close by working together. I guess the "mess" after the breakup aligns with your reference, but please correct me if I am wrong.
