tcf22 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Does anyone know of a way to send a secure e-mail with a verisign digital cert through perl? I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for anywhere.

The only way I can think to do it, is to install the digital cert in outlook, then send an email using Win32::OLE, by creating an Outlook application object. I really really don't want to do this.

Just off the top of my head, isn't this what pgp (and therefore gpg) do? Excaept I don't know if they can use the verisign cert, but I'd think they would.

And there are perl interfaces to gpg, though I haven't used them.

    how about SMIME? smime

You may still have to handle the mechanics of getting the email sent to an SMTP server: SMTP or MIME.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that S/MIME is the way that Verisign certs are generally used.
