To my knowledge, fork() is emulated on Win32 systems using threads, thanks to the good work of Gurusamy Sarathy.

It is a good emulation, but it's not perfect. Check out They didn't give me a fork so I have to eat with a spawn. for more details. Specifically, for some ActivePerls, forking more than a certain number of processes (20?) results in "Resource Temporarily Unavailable" errors. -- Mike	[reply]
