blackadder has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Greetings untouchable monks

I am trying to set up local repository; I am using ppm3 and ActiveState ver 5.8. I have downloaded Win32-Lanman-1.0.10.0-ppm.5.8.tar.gz, and few other modules then I dropped them in c:\temp. I started ppm3 and I did rep add “Local” c:\temp as it was suggested in the help rep command. However when I do search * no modules listing appears and I get this msg “No matches for ‘*’; see help search”. I changed the path to file://c:/temp (like the old way) still to no avail. Is there something else I need to do?

Many Thanks

Using PPM to install modules says
NOTE: If none of the changes in this document work for you, you may download individual packages from here ActivePerl 801 and later or here ActivePerl 613 and later or here ActivePerl 522 and earlier and install them according to the directions in the README file contained within the ZIP file. If you want, you can also keep a local repository, with several .ppd files in a permanent repository directory, and their .tar.gz files in an x86 directory beneath that.
Just dropping tarballs in a directory will not work(the .ppd contains all the magic).

MJD says "you can't just make shit up and expect the computer to know what you mean, retardo!"
    I run a Win32 PPM repository for perl 5.6.x and 5.8.x -- I take requests (README).
