in reply to Add FAQ to navigation bar?

I think that the "need help?" link is more than adequate for finding stuff out, and it does stick out from the navigation section. You could always add the FAQ to your personal nodelet.

...stick out from the navigation section...

I'd have to disagree there. The "Need Help??" link is not at all sticking out, at least not with the default style on my Safari browser. Please realize that there is a lot of text on the display at the Monastery, so particularly newbies will be overwhelmed. And the fact that it's above navigation section the way it is, gives the impression it is the header of the navigation section, rather than a link by itself.

If anything, I think it would be better if the "Need Help??" link and the ( print w/replies xml ) would be switched.

And/Or possibly have the "Need Help??" link have a different colour from the rest of the scheme: it won't do the colour blind much good, but it would make it stick out better.

And in the end, I don't think it would hurt to have a "FAQ" link next to "Offering Plate" as well.

I agree with liz both on it not sticking out as well as putting it next to the "Offering Plate". I've been here a bit over 2 years and had not noticed that the "Need Help??" link went to the FAQ.

MidLifeXis++ pointed out to me that the PerlMonks FAQ is in the Information nodelet (which I turned off a long time ago).

However, I can't see a "need help?" link - am I being stupid (again)? :-)

Did you go into user settings and 'turn off hints'? Yes, I see that you have. (So have 169 other monks.) That's why you don't see the FAQ link.

Ah. Silly me for shutting off all of the help and hints.

Turning hints back on briefly showed the "Need Help??" link.
I'll actually disagree with liz - once I'd turned hints back on it wasn't too difficult to find.

Either way, I'd say that FAQ/site docs should always be available. The SiteDocClan do a lot of work - lets make it more obvious!
