For those of you who do not read http://use.perl.org, ActiveState has been acquired by Sophos.

Sophos' press release states that:

"ActiveState's product lines for open source programmers will continue to be developed and sold under the ActiveState brand. As a division of Sophos, the existing ActiveState team is committed to continuing its support of the open source language community."
We can only wait and see...

ActiveState has also posted a letter to their customers.

Interesting headline there "Sophos acquires anti-spam specialist ActiveState." Apparently activeperl wasn't tops on their list.

A little searching comes up with this amoung other articles indicating Sophos has a positive stance towards FOSS. Doesn't appear to be too much to worry about here.

Rats!   (I think)   The anti-spam offering from Sophos was rather, umm, less than ideal.   We (the underground conslutants) were hoping to convince the security people at one place to replace it with PureMessage.   Sigh, victory in the marketplace, where the 'products' are not the products, they're the companies.
