WinXP directory listing

DanM has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Under Windows XP is there a way to write the contents of a directory (including extra information such as artist, album, track 'date picture taken' etc.) to a file?

Here are some pointers: search CPAN for modules with the word 'file' in it play around with win32's 'dir' command like this: my $dirListing = `dir c:\`; notice the backticks win32::OLE is supposed to be an interface between Perl and many windows thingies. perhaps it can interface to explorer and give you information. If you are looking at mp3 files, the MP3::Info module can get you artist/album info and more. For digital photographs, the Image::EXIF module can fetch the aperture settings, dates and other details.	[reply]
