in reply to No, not a suggestion for another area!

I feel a little leary about posting web dev questions in the company of the more rarified air of the sys admins lurking here, but I know, from experience, that the PM advice would be invaluable.

Go ahead and ask them!

There is no bias here about asking web questions. This isn't efnet/#perl afterall, it's a web site and its engine is written in Perl.

Besides, I'm not sure I even agree with your assessment. I think the number of web oriented questions here rivals and possibly exceeds the number of system admin questions. Of course, we get our share of questions about application programming and databases too.¹ And, it isn't really easy to draw clear boundaries between any of these subject areas. Many of us even have experience and can offer assistance in more than one area.

Besides, most questions boil down to syntax or logic and have little or no dependence on the task intended for the program as a whole. There are, for instance, a whole lot of questions with "CGI" in their title that have absolutely nothing to do specifically with CGI.

So, I've got to agree with BUU and pg: a web-only section is neither necessary nor desirable.

1. And XML. And GUI stuff. And bioinformatics. And numerical analysis. Etc. Etc. Etc.
