jweed has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello

I use perl (up-to-date) running under cygwin (up-to-date) to do all my development, and I recently have had a recent LWP install snag.

Running cpan LWP does a download of the tar, followed by an extraction. The relavent portion occurs at the end of this untar step:

----List of filenames being untarred---- /usr/bin/tar: libwww-perl-5.75/README: Cannot utime: Invalid argument libwww-perl-5.75/lwpcook.pod
The question is: Am I experiencing a cygwin problem (tar is messed up) or a LWP/perl/cpan problem?

Any help would be appreciated

IIRC libwww-perl is a prerequisite of LWP. Is your cpan set up to follow or ask about installing prerequisites? It sounds like you are missing that.

    After Compline,

cpan is set to follow for prerequisites.

libwww-perl is not a prerequisite of LWP, it _is_ LWP. LibWww-Perl.

It's a tar issue - it says so in the error message.

You could locate the tarball in your cache and try to untar it manually. At least you would know if the problem is coming from tar.

I'm also using up-to-date cygwin and can't duplicate your problem--it untar's fine for me, either via cpan or manual download/tar xvfz libwww-perl-5.57.tar.gz. If you ask cygwin@cygwin.com for help, be sure to follow the instructions in http://cygwin.com/problems.html (particularly attaching cygcheck -s -v -r output) or they will yell at you.
