Everyone's already read Schneier et al. on how monoculture environments are hazardous to your health, but just how hazardous? I didn't know either so I wrote a simulator to play around with infections through polycultures of a controllable size, shape, and character. You can find my musings here, complete with current source code.

A warning, however -- the images on that page are quite big and may take a while to load.

Enjoy!

Thanks. I happen to work for a non-profit orginization for Agriculture Science. The people running this place should be familer with the dangers of monocultures. I'll be sure to point them to your page if they ever try a mass Win server adoption :)

I wrote a network worm simulator in perl: http://www.users.qwest.net/~eballen1/nws/

Although the simulator I wrote could do polycultures, I never got around to doing that. I did simulate what multiple worms in a monoculture might look like.
